Relient K: New Song, 'Part-Time Lover' Premiered, From Upcoming Album, 'Collapsible Lung'
Relient K premiered their new song, 'Part-Time Lover,' from their upcoming album, 'Collapsible Lung,' on June 19 through the Alternative Press.
'Part-Time Lover' is a fast-paced love song that showcases the group's high vocal range. It will appear on the new album, 'Collapsible Lung,' when it releases on July 2.
The new song joins the ranks of other songs premiered online from the upcoming album including, 'Don't Blink,' 'Lost Boy,' and the bonus track 'That's My Jam,' featuring Owl City.
"Collapsible Lung is a bit of an experimental record for us, but not in the traditional sense of the word," said Matt Thiessen, frontman for the band, according to the Alternative Press. "We made it a point to pull back all of our usual tricks in the recording process, and forced ourselves to determine how to present each song in the best and most concise way."
Relient K expects the new album to be something fresh and new for them. "This time around, we wanted to have a collection of songs that surprised even us," Thiessen said, according to a press release by Merge. "To do that, we teamed up with several other writers in LA, Nashville, and New York City. This ensured that the new LP would be unpredictable. Each song includes a different combination of authors, yet there is an underlying thread that ties the tunes together thematically. We took an experimental approach creating the album, and we couldn't be more pleased with the result."
'Collapsible Lung,' marks their first full-length album in four years since their album 'Forget and Not Slow Down,' which was released in 2009. The band is looking forward to releasing the new album. "It was a refreshing process, and we feel that much of that energy is transparent in the recording. We are incredibly proud of this record," Thiessen told Alt Press.
The album has been finished since January and the band is working on some logistics until the album is released on July 2. "We mastered the record in January (2013), so with the record completely done, it took a while to get the artwork together, and then also we were just figuring out how we were going to put it out, how we were going to distribute it, release it officially, and that just went through several different stages of development, and I'm actually really happy with where we're at right now," said Matt Hoopes, of Relient K, in an interview with Jesusfreakhideout.
After the release of their new album, Relient K will be doing a U.S. tour with special guests, 'The Almost' and 'The Rocket Boys.' They are also expected to appear on the Vans Warped Tour this summer.
